In the early days of the Prohibition, none was more powerful than newspaper tycoon William Randolph Hearst, who destroyed celebrity reputations with the rumours and scandals he turned into headlines. But it wasn’t long before he himself was caught up in a shocking tale of passion, alcohol and murder.

In November 1924, Hearst intended to join forces with famous film producer Thomas Ince to produce a series of movies starring his younger mistress, actress Marion Davies. To seal the deal, Ince was invited to a lavish party aboard the Hearst yacht, the Oneida.

Other invited guests included famous silent film actor Charlie Chaplin, who was rumoured to be having a secret affair with Davies; Hollywood gossip columnist Louella Parsons; writer Elinor Glyn and actress Margaret Livingston.

It was during this fateful weekend cruise that Thomas Ince was murdered. His body was removed from the ship four days later, but an autopsy was never completed and the circumstances surrounding his death were never solved. It is up to your team to discover who committed the deed. Was it a crime of passion? A jealous film star? A case of mistaken identity?
